Sushma: Rita crossed all limits

The BJP on Thursday condemned the alleged derogatory remarks of Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi against Chief Minister Mayawati and demanded an apology from the Congresss central leadership read Sonia Gandhi on the issue.

Mere disassociation from Joshis remarks and her conditional apology is not sufficient. The central leadership of Congress should unconditionally apologise, BJP Deputy Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj told reporters here. I dont think these issues should be seen politically. Its an issue concerning the dignity of women8230; Rita had crossed all limits of a political attack against a rival and in the process forgot the dignity of women.

She cannot get away with such comments, Swaraj said,virtually justifying Joshis arrest. If you make such statements,arrest will follow.

While the BJP leader criticised the burning of Joshis residence in Lucknow,she accepted Mayawatis assurance of an inquiry into the incident. Nobody should take law into their hands. But as the Chief Minister has assured of a probe into the incident,we will await the report. The report will show whether police failed to prevent the incident, she said.
