Strike affects work in Rourkela Steel Plant

The two-day strike launched by CITU has hit production at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP).

The two-day all India strike launched by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has hit steel production at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP).

The CITU has been demanding wage revision as the National Joint Committee on Steel (NJCS) failed to sort out this issue despite several rounds of meetings at New Delhi.

The official spokesperson of the RSP admitted that normal work and production were affected and the attendance was about 52 per cent today. No disciplinary action against any worker had been initiated so far.

The strike,which began yesterday has hit most of the important departments like SMS-II,blast furnaces,silicon steel mill,cold rolling mill etc.

The workers affiliated to the CITU organised demonstrations at different entry points to the plant obstructing anyone’s movement through them. However,no untoward incident has been reported,official sources said.
