Jalali House in Zadibal, old Srinagar,is a living example of the Valleys wooden architectural heritage. The three-storeyed,18,000-square-foot house was constructed by Aga Syed Hasan Shah Jalali,a social worker and landlord,in 1863. His descendant and current owner, former Jamp;K tourism director Syed Iftikhar Hussain Jalali, walks around the house every morning with a wooden stick to fill the gaps caused by pecking of birds. Except for turning a small room into a bathroom,no change has been made to it for the last 150 years. Jalali House has three private bedrooms, four small rooms, old baths, and spacious halls which can hold up to 200 people at a time. Safwat Zargar
