The CBI told the Delhi High Court Wednesday that it should not be asked to take up cases that could be investigated by different branches of the Delhi Police,because the agency was overburdened and understaffed.
The objection by the CBI counsel came during arguments on a plea alleging that the Delhi Police Crime Branch and Vigilance departments were not properly investigating a case of bribery and extortion in which several police personnel were allegedly involved.
The court,however,asked the CBI to take your time and conduct the investigation. They are not in a hurry,you can take your time the court said.
The order came on a plea filed by Chetan Prakash Sharma,who has alleged that the accused,Jai Kotcher,was laying illegal traps to catch corrupt police officers on camera and using it against them for extorting money.
Sharma,who has conducted several sting operations and filed numerous complaints of bribery against police officers,has alleged that the Delhi Police Crime Branch was not carrying out investigations properly.
Counsel for Sharma Anil Aggarwal told the court on Wednesday that there had been connivance of police officials even of the Delhi Police Crime Branch since the Crime Branch is staffed by regular police officials.
The court said,Investigation in this case ought to be conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation to provide credibility and confidence8230; This is because a large number of police officers of the Delhi Police are allegedly involved. The investigation in the case is handed over to the CBI.
