Sensex’ 3-yr journey from 20K to 20K

Sensex scaled the landmark 20,000 milestone for the second time in 32 months.

With the Dalal Street acting bullish once again,the benchmark index Sensex today scaled the landmark 20,000 milestone for the second time in 32 months.

Following is the chronology of Sensex’s eventful journey from the first time it kissed the 20,000 level in October 2007,to the lows of 8,000 points during the global financial crisis,before the comeback to the high level of 20,000 today.

20,000 — October 29,2007 (Sensex reaches the new peak the first time)

20,000 — December 11,2007 (Sensex closes above the 20,000 mark)

21,000 level– January 8,2008

19,000 levels — January 16,2008

18,000 levels — January 18,2008

17,000 levels — January 21,2008

16,000 levels — January 22,2008

15,000 levels –March 7,2008

14,000 levels — March 17,2008

13,000 levels — June 24,2008

12,000 levels — July 1,2008

11,000 levels — October 6,2008

The Sensex level of 7,697.39 points was its lowest in the past two years. The index restarted its slow upward climb from this point.
