A Supreme Court Bench, led by Justice P Sathasivam,Monday sought response from the CBI on a bail plea by MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in the disproportionate assets case. Reddy, chief of the YSR Congress, has been in jail for almost a year in connection with corruption cases. The Bench has asked the CBI to file its response by May 6.
Reddy had moved the court against Andhra Pradesh High Courts January 24 order that denied him bail in the case.
In October 2012,the apex court had dismissed Reddys bail plea in the case while giving him the liberty to come back to the court after completion of the CBI probe against him on certain aspects of money laundering.
The CBI since then has filed a number of chargesheets against Reddy and others. The agency has accused him and his late father and former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy of conspiring to defraud the government. According to the CBI,Reddy allegedly influenced his father in doling out certain favours to various players, who,in return, invested several crores in his businesses.
Several ministers who served in his fathers Cabinet and officials are under the CBIs watch for allegedly issuing controversial orders, allotting land, granting mining licences to companies promoted by Reddy.
