Saradha scam: Calcutta High Court withholds order on CBI probe

The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday allowed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the state government

The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday allowed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up by the state government to proceed with its investigation into the Saradha scam, but kept the option for a CBI probe open.

A Division Bench of Justices Ashim Kumar Banerjee and Mrinal Kanti Chaudhury, passing its order on PILs seeking a CBI probe into the scam, said,“We do not reject the prayer for appointment of the CBI,we keep it pending.”

Referring to an affidavit filed by the CBI,the Bench said the CBI needed the assistance of the state government to investigate Saradha. “If we withdraw the process from the state machinery, ask the CBI to take it over and ask the state machinery to assist them, the result would not be as expected,at least, the stage has not come as we find from the fact situation,” said the Bench. The Bench asked the SIT to file a progress report every month on the last day of the month to the registrar-general from June 30.
