Rupee slips to 46.81 against dollar

The rupee depreciated by 9 paise in opening trade on increased demand for dollar.

The rupee depreciated by 9 paise to 46.81 a dollar in opening trade on increased demand for the US currency, which strengthened against major world currencies.

Dealers said demand for the US currency from importers put pressure on the Indian rupee.

The dollar’s gains against other currencies and fears of capital outflows by foreign funds also weighed on the rupee, they added.

The rupee had ended 16 paise higher at 46.72/73 against the dollar in previous trade on Friday last week.
