Re-employed CBI DoP may get higher rank

Even as a debate rages about having a separate,independent Directorate of Prosecution (DoP) for the CBI,the Union Law Ministry is seeking elevation in rank and perks for the CBIs current DoP Abdul Aziz,who,incidentally,retired in July and was re-employed for two years on the recommendation of the CBI.

Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid,sources said,is keen to ensure that Aziz,who had tendered the controversial legal opinion on September 8 in the matter pertaining to Essar-Loop companies in the 2G spectrum allocation scam,is given the rank of Additional Secretary,even though he held the rank of Joint Secretary when he retired while holding the post of Director of Prosecution,CBI.
