Mohali MC limit expansion: Over 150 residents record objections, final notification likely by next week

Advocate Gaurav Goyal, who attended from TDI City, claimed that officials instructed the audience that only those whose names were called would be allowed to speak. “People were asked just one basic question, whether their area should be brought under the municipal limits and were told to reply strictly with a ‘yes’ or ‘no’. No arguments were heard, no documents were reviewed, and none of the local issues were discussed,” he said, alleging that the AAP government and the Local Government Department were “suppressing public voices” and ignoring ground-level concerns.

Final notification likely by next week

The Punjab government is currently examining public objections and suggestions about the proposed new municipal limits. Officials indicated that the final draft might be prepared within the next couple of days, following which the final notification could be issued next week.

ATS Society filed maximum objections

Balongi-based ATS Society recorded the highest number of objections supporting inclusion in the municipal limits. Around 45 flat owners submitted written objections stating that their society lies adjacent to the city and should therefore be brought under the Municipal Corporation.

Rurka panchayat opposes inclusion

The Gram Panchayat of Rurka village, located near Aerocity, has strongly opposed joining the Mohali MC. In a unanimous resolution, the panchayat stated that municipal inclusion would “disturb the rural structure” and adversely impact local development works. Representatives said the village has distinct needs best addressed under the Panchayati Raj system.

Balongi, Badh Majra, Baliyali and Ballo Majra favour inclusion

According to information, residents of Balongi, Badh Majra, Baliyali, and Ballo Majra submitted suggestions, seeking inclusion in the Mohali MC limits.
