The court had taken suo motu cognisance of The Indian Express report on the detention of the girl. On April 9,the girls mother had taken her to a police station in Bulandshahr and complained that Harinder,35,an upper-caste Rajput, had raped her daughter and dumped her in a field, unconscious. But instead of registering a case against the accused, the police threw the girl behind bars. Her mother tried to reason with the police women but she was told to leave the police station.
