Charges were framed against four accused in connection with the attack on a CRPF camp in Rampur on January 1,2008,on Saturday. However,charges are yet to be framed against three more accused Sabauddin,Imran Shehzad and Mohammad Farooq who did not make an appearance in court.
Sabauddin,who hails from Bihar,is presently lodged at a jail in Mumbai. The Pakistani nationals Imran and Farooq are in a Lucknow jail.
Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC) at Rampur,Sarwat Ali,confirmed that the charges had been filed at the court of Additional Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Shrikrishna Singh.
Uttar Pradesh ATS DIG Rajiv Sabbarwal told The Sunday Express: The charges have been filed today against four of the accused. The two investigation officers in the case and the prosecuting officer,along with Government lawyers,were present in court.
Defence lawyer Mohammad Shoaib said: The four accused are Mohammad Sharif alias Suhail,Mohammad Kausar,jang Bahadur alias Baba Khan and Gulab Khan.
Sabbarwal said: The chargesheet filed against the accused contained concrete evidences backed by the forensic reports that corroborated the conspiracy and the execution of the attack on the CRPF camp.
The court has slated July 20 as the next date of hearing. Seven CRPF personnel and a rickshaw puller were killed in the CRPF camp attack on January 1,2008 in Rampur.
