Production resumes at Marutis Manesar unit

After two days of stand-off between workers and management,Maruti Suzuki India resumed production at its Manesar facility,albeit on a much lower scale.

After two days of stand-off between workers and management,Maruti Suzuki India on Wednesday resumed production at its Manesar facility,albeit on a much lower scale.

The company rolled out its first Swift since the production had been totally crippled on Monday. Management of the automaker said that around 500 trained and experienced workers were available with them and will be deployed over the next few days. Early in the day,the company brought in 120 ITI trained workers to the unit. In addition,50 engineers from companys Gurgaon plant and around 290 supervisors are working at the Manesar plant.

However,the tiff between the management and the agitating workers over signing a good conduct bond is far from over.

The company had,on Tuesday,suspended 28 workers. According to the workers the company was forcing them to sign the bond which they feared could put them at the companys mercy. We have not resumed our work. We will have a meeting on Thursday which would decide the course of action we would adopt, a worker said.

All India Trade Union Congress national secretary DL Sachdeva said that unions of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India,Rico Auto,Sona Steering and Hero MotoCorp had agreed to join the protests.
