Uttar Pradeshs Minority Welfare Minister Azam Khan has constituted a six-member committee, headed by Secretary of Minority Welfare Leena Jauhri,to study the status of implementation of Sachar Committee recommendations in the state.
The committee has been tasked to prepare a status report on the implementation of those recommendations for which the state government is responsible. For those recommendations where no action has been taken, the report would be sent to the department concerned for taking suitable action. The report of the committee is expected to be ready before the Monsoon session of the Assembly.
Several recommendations, like nomination of Muslim members in unrepresented local bodies, government boards and corporations, have been fulfilled by the state government. We will be preparing a list of such recommendations that have been implemented , a committee member stated.
The recommendations that have been implemenetd will be highlighted as achievements of the state government.
The committee will also find ways for recognition of degrees from madarsas for eligibility in competitive examinations. It will also work out mechanisms whereby madarsas can be linked with a higher secondary school board so that students wanting to shift to a regular and mainstream education can do so after having passed from a madarsa as recommended by Sachar Committee.
The Samajwadi Party,in its election manifesto, had promised that those recommendations of Sachar Committee and Ranganath Mishra Commission which can be implemented by the state government will be implemented across the state at the earliest. For the remaining recommendations, the SP will exert pressure on the Cente for their implementation.
