Pak troops kill five Chechen bombers

Pakistani security forces shot dead five suspected al-Qaeda-linked Chechen militants who had tried to carry out a suicide bombing in the southwestern city of Quetta.

Pakistani security forces shot dead five suspected al-Qaeda-linked Chechen militants who had tried to carry out a suicide bombing in the southwestern city of Quetta on Tuesday,the police and paramilitary officials said.

The bombers included three women,the police said. They were killed near a paramilitary checkpoint in Quetta. One soldier died of wounds after being shot.

It was the second time Pakistani security forces were targeted since al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed in a US raid earlier this month. Quetta police chief Daud Junejo said the attackers were Chechens.

One Russian passport with a picture of a man in a suit was shown to journalists. Pakistans Taliban has vowed to avenge Osamas death and last week,it said its suicide bombers killed 80 people at a paramilitary academy in Charsadda. At least one of the attackers blew himself up before being shot.
