As the BJP looks set to stall Parliament over the arrest of its former Gujarat minister Amit Shah and misuse of the CBI ,there is a growing disquiet in the Samajwadi Party (SP),Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) ranks.
The leaders of all three parties have found themselves at the receiving end of the CBI stick at varying times, but while itching to vent their anger over the governments selective use of the agency, they dont want to do anything that can help the BJPs cause.
In fact, the assessment of the senior leaders of these parties is that more the BJP rakes up the Sohrabuddin Sheikh case, the more mileage the Congress will enjoy for cracking down against Modis confidant between the two parties, they fear, they themselves may end up gaining nothing.
Also, with all the three parties competing with the Congress for minority support in their home turfs, they have little option but to go with the ruling party on this matter.
Netaji (SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav) is very keen to speak against the political misuse of the CBI in the House. But I have cautioned him to not fall in the trap of getting clubbed with the BJP,given the political sentiments around the Sohrabuddin case, said a senior SP leader, who claims to have also cautioned Mulayam against participating in the Opposition-sponsored cut motion on price rise in the last Budget session.
RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Tuesday took the safe route of asking the CBI to dig deeper into the Sohrabuddin case, to go beyond Shah to his mentor Narendra Modi. I want to ask the Congress and CBI… They have only touched the chooza (chick). Why not go after the broiler? Lalu said.
The BSP,which has also been critical of the CBI for the disproportionate assets case pending against party supremo Mayawati, remained tightlipped about the BJPs plans to raise action against Shah. As of now,we have been asked to highlight the issue of price rise. We will await directions from Behenji on our partys stance towards the CBIs misuse,if the BJP rakes it up in the House, a senior BSP leader said.
