Hours after Union Home Minister P Chidambaram offered to quit in the wake of the Dantewada massacre,Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh said this was not the time to get carried away, but to give a new impetus to the anti-Naxalite drive.

The entire country is deeply hurt by the loss of lives in the Dantewada massacre. Instead of getting carried away, this is the time to give a new impetus to the anti-Naxalite drive in the country, Singh said. Chidambaram,or anyone else, need not quit at this juncture. The country and Chhattisgarh stand united at this hour.

Asked if the Centre,or Chhattisgarh, should be held responsible for the massacre,Singh said an inquiry is on to find out what went wrong.

On whether Army or Air Force should be used against Naxals,Singh said: Air support, like choppers, would be useful enablers in this fight. But I dont think Army is needed. CRPF,as also paramilitary forces like the ITBP,have been doing a good job. But we must seriously consider upgrading training facilities for them. We will train them in guerrilla warfare. On Thursday,Singh had slammed the diverse voices emanating from various quarters at the Centre on ways to fight Naxals.
