‘No word on Faseeh since arrest’

I first got to know about my son’s arrest from a relative in Jeddah on May 13 night.

The father of Faseeh Mehmood, the engineer from Darbhanga who was arrested in Saudi Arabia on May 13 on “terror charges”,says he has not received any word on his son either from the embassy in Riyadh or any investigating agency after the arrest.

“I first got to know about my son’s arrest from a relative in Jeddah on May 13 night. I was also told that my daughter-in-law Nikhat Parbeen has been deported to India,” Dr Firoz Ahmed told The Indian Express at house, confirming Faseeh’s arrest.

Ahmed,in-charge of the primary healthcare centre at Benipatti in Madhubani, said the family had no clue on what specific terror charges Faseeh has been arrested. “He had been living in Al Jubail since 2007. He was an engineer with a reputed company. He was to move to another town in Saudi Arabia as his project was completed,” he said.

He said he met his daughter-in-law at her parents’ place in Patna. He was told that the Saudi police picked up Faseeh from his home; he was only allowed to change his dress. His daughter-in-law was handed over to a relative there. “My daughter-in-law’s father,a district supply officer at Bettiah, received Nikhat at Patna airport on Wednesday,” he said.

Dr Ahmed, who divides his time between his village and workplace Benipatti, said a relative named Aafaq Haider from Darbhanga had of late been meeting his son at Al Jubail. He suspected that Aafaq spied on his son at the behest of the police.

Faseeh,he said, had been a brilliant student and had no criminal record in India.

Dr Ahmed said his was a family of doctors, engineers and professors and hence, his son’s arrest had greatly disturbed them.

“But my conscience is clear. I have nothing to hide,” he said, adding that he was waiting for a call on Faseeh’s whereabouts.
