Nirmal Yadav case: HC raps Law Ministry

For being insincere and taking court direction in a routine manner, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday slammed the Ministry of Law and Justice

For being insincere and taking court direction in a routine manner, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday slammed the Ministry of Law and Justice. Justice Permod Kohli minced no words in expressing strong displeasure against the ministry for not making any effort to place on record the written opinion,of the then Chief Justice of India wherein he had turned down the sanction to prosecute Justice (Retd) Nirmal Yadav in the infamous judge bribery case. The High Cout turned down the request of Yadav wherein her counsel requested for stay over proceedings of the judge bribery case pending in the lower court.

A petition challenging the chargesheet against Yadav came up for resumed hearing on Wednesday. The ministry on the last date was asked to place on record the said opinion,if any.

Appearing on behalf of the ministry, advocate Anmol Rattan Sidhu, sought 15 days time to furnish the required information.

It seems that the ministry has taken the direction of this court as a routine direction and is seeking time for filing reply. As a matter of fact, this court had simply directed the ministry to file an affidavit disclosing certain information sought by this court and no detailed reply was asked for. The direction does not seem to have been complied with sincerely. However,in the interest of justice,Secretary to Ministry of Law and Justice is allowed four weeks time to file the required affidavit with advance copy to the other side, read the HC order.

The case has been adjourned till July 14.
