After seeing the dawn of the New Year in the company of their families,BJP legislators were back to indulging in what is now popularly known in Bangalore as resort politics. BJP legislators huddled together for the umpteenth time to thrash out ever erupting differences at a popular spa and resort owned by film-maker Sanjay Khan,located on the outskirts of Bangalore. The Karnataka BJP has already been in and out of the resort once in the 18 months since they came to power having logged in for a brain storming session at the start of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappas tenure. Different sets of BJP MLAs have also been in and out of resorts in Bangalore,Hyderabad and Goa over the last three months,as the BJP has been rocked by rebellion.

Justice D V Shylendra Kumar of the Karnataka HC is among the first judges in India to use the Internet to share his views on various issues. He used a password-secured website to speak out when other avenues appeared to be closed. Starting with the declaration of personal assets,Justice Shylendra Kumar has used his website to express thoughts on the functioning of the judiciary. He has also used the website to question the vesting of administrative powers with Karnataka Chief Justice P Dinakaran at a time when he has withdrawn from judicial work in the light of the impeachment motion against him. He article on judges and the RTI,which contradicted the CJIs views on declaration of assets,is among the posts on the website.
Opposition fails to scare interim Speaker
The assembly recently witnessed unprecedented scenes with the JD(S) and Congress members trying to scare interim Speaker Yogish Bhat out of his seat in an effort to stall the election of a permanent Speaker. At the forefront of the antics was JD(S) MLA Zameer Ahmed,a close associate of former CM H D Kumaraswamy,who shook himself violently around the chair of the Speaker. But Bhat refused to be distracted. Kumaraswamy had almost clinched an agreement with BJP MLAs to get them to vote in favour of a candidate propped by the JD(S) and Congress. By attempting to get the polls postponed,the Opposition was hoping to grab the Speakers seat. But the BJP saw its candidate K G Bopiah through.
Cops fail to crack Kaiga nuclear plant case
More than a month after the contamination of drinking water with radioactive material at the Kaiga Nuclear power plant,the Uttara Kannada Police,who were investigating the matter,have thrown up their arms expressing difficulty in nabbing the culprits. The Uttar Kannada Police,who began investigations after being called in by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India,said they have been unable to zero in on the people who may have contaminated a drinking water with radioactive Tritium. The police claim to have been unable to cut through the technicalities in the case and get to the bottom of it. The NPCIL officials had hinted that the contamination that left 55 workers ill in November was an act of mischief.
