Seeking to put a lid on the controversy over his reported remarks,Union Minister Farooq Abdullah on Monday clarified that he had never questioned the belief of Muslims that the Quran was revealed to Prophet Mohammad. I wish to categorically re-assert that I had at no point of time made any reference to the holy Quran being revealed to anybody other than Prophet Mohammad, he said.
Abdullah was quoted as having made statements contrary to the Muslim faith. His reported remarks led to protests in parts of Kashmir on Monday with Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani calling on Islamic scholars to issue an edict on the matter.
Abdullah said he had mentioned that Ramadan is the holiest month as the Quran was revealed to Prophet Mohammad during this month. I had never claimed that the Quran was revealed to anyone other than the Prophet Mohammad, Abdullah said.
