India should have a GST council on the pattern of European Council comprising 27 countries for the implementation of GST,Chairman of Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers on Goods and Services Tax S K Modi proposed today.
India should have a GST council on the line of the one constituted by 27 countries (European Council) for harmonisation of indirect taxes, Modi told reporters on his return from 10-day trip to Luxembourg,France,Spain and Belgium.
Stating that European Union had implemented GST 20 years ago,Modi said there was uniformity in taxes in all the 27 countries.
He said there is EU Council which takes unanimous decision on GST for the 27 countries with an International Court of Justice of EU taking care of the disputes in its implementation.
