The Ministry of Defence MoD has issued a clarification to the Armed Forces about the revised pay structure for Lt Colonels, making it clear that only Lt Col and equivalent officers who are deputed on non-combatant roles to organisations like the National Highways Authority of India NHAI and the Pawan Hans helicopter service will be excluded from the pay hike.

The issue of combatant and non-combatant officers had snowballed into a controversy after a directive by the PMO that only Lt Cols in the combatant role who are deputed to other organisations would be eligible for the higher pay band of PB 4 in the revised pay structure.
