MHA: Use national emblem with motto

Ministry of Home Affairs has directed all government agencies to stop using the incomplete version of the national emblem.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed all government agencies, including the state governments and other government agencies,to stop using the incomplete version of the national emblem which is the governments official seal with immediate effect.

Several government agencies do not use the national motto,Satyameva Jayate (Truth Alone Triumphs),written in Devanagri script below the national emblem in the official seals. The directive comes following complaints with the Government of India that the national emblem is incomplete without the motto.

The MHA has asked officers at various government headquarters to ensure compliance with the order. The seal is used in government stationery, publications, seals, vehicles, buildings and websites and by the police force across the country on their uniforms.

Government sources confirmed that a similar advisory was issued in 2007. It is a prestigious stamp of authority of the government. But numerous IPS officers and government flag posts on cars, official stationery were all using it without Satyameva Jayate below the emblem, they said.

The communiqué warns that the incomplete display is a violation of the State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Act 2005 and State Emblem of India (Regulation of Use) Rules 2007. The emblem for official purposes should depict the complete picture of the state emblem together with the motto, it said.
