Film celeb marriages have taken on a different hue
Nikhil Dwivedi and his new wife,Gaurie threw a party at a bar-cum restaurant last week to celebrate their marriage, which had been a quiet affair. While Nikhil wore a striped black and white trouser and a waistcoat jacket, the new bride wore a simple black dress. It was interesting to note that it was probably the first time that a newly wedded Indian bride was seen wearing a black dress and just a diamond bangle and earrings for her wedding party. She looked trim and chic, but understated for a bride. Farah Khan, who was amongst the first guests to arrive, promptly commented on the brides attire. You are already wearing black she said tongue-in-cheek. In fact everything about the party was low key. Nothing wrong, except that it would have been nice to see a splash of colour, some flowers and more jewelry on the bride.
Clearly, even if a Bollywood wedding is celebrated in designer clothes and spectacular jewellery like Imran Khan and Avantika Malik’s was, with Varun Bahl,Manish Malhotra attires it is generally an intimate affair. This was evident at Neelam Kothari and Samir Sonis wedding reception at a Mumbai five star with the bride in a stunning green floral saree and Samir in a smart suit, but they were only joined by close friends and family. Likewise Juhi Babbar and Anup Soni took their wedding vows with a small group of friends.
Even though there was an attempt at royalty at Rajeev Khandelwals wedding which was a marvadi affair at the fort at Khimsar in Jodhpur with the groom riding a well-decked horse and both bride and groom attired in traditional wedding clothes, the marriage was solemnised amongst an intimate group.
This would even hold true for the most scrumptious marriage of the year- that of Lara Dutta to ace tennis player,Mahesh Bhupathi. Even though it included a Ritu Kumar dress for the bride and a white Ellie Saab gown at the Victorian style church wedding in Goa,and everything from the bows on the chairs to the center pieces on the tables customised,it was still celebrated with very few people.
Clearly, many film celebs are now drawn to quieter and calmer weddings. In fact today’s celebs marriages are a perfect representation of the time, designer clothes, good food and only friends. Of course one thing remains the same. The marriage vows.
