Buckling under political pressure,the state government on Monday suspended Assistant Police Inspector traffic Sachin Suryawanshi for misbehaving with MLA Kshitij Thakur.

Home Minister R R Patil told the Assembly and council,The decision to suspend Suryawanshi was taken based on a preliminary report that suggests he did not behave properly with the MLA and used rude language. Suryawanshi had accosted Thakur for speeding on the Bandra-Worli Sealink last Monday and fined him for the violation.

Thakur had moved a breach of privilege motion against Suryawanshi in the Assembly the next day. The same evening,Suryawanshi was beaten up by a group of MLAs including Thakur of Bahujan Vikas Aghadi and Ram Kadam of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena in the Vidhan Bhawan lobby.

On Wednesday,Speaker Dilip Walse-Patil suspended five MLAs including Thakur and Ram Kadam. Thakur and Kadam were arrested on Thursday,but got bail Monday. The states action to suspend Suryawanshi are based on the findings of the inquiry undertaken by DCP S R Nilewadi.

MLAs across party lines have demanding the suspension of Suryawanshi. On Monday morning,at the core committee meeting at CM Prithviraj Chavans office,ministers Narayan Rane and Nitin Raut demanded action against him.

Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh refused to comment on the matter.
