Holding that petitioners were not aggrieved persons, the Madras High Court on Monday refused to overturn the ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam that the Centre imposed on May 14,2010. The ban was confirmed by the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal on November 12 that year. Vaiko of MDMK and Prisoners Rights Forum had filed petitions at the High Court against the ban.
However,a Division Bench comprising Justices Elipe Dharma Rao and M Venugopal dismissed the petitions on Monday, noting that the petitioners were neither office-bearers nor members of the proscribed outfit, and hence not an aggrieved party to legally challenge the ban.
