Local trains collide in Mumbai,injuries feared

Western Railway Public Relations Officer N David said the incident occurred as the two local trains came on the same track.

Two local trains rammed into each other at Andheri Railway Station around 11.10 pm on Saturday. The incident occurred on track four. While initial reports suggested several people were injured in the accident,railway authorities maintained at the time of going to press that they

had not got any reports of injuries.

Western Railway Public Relations Officer N David said the incident occurred as the two local trains came on the same track.

Two local trains,one headed from Churchgate to Virar and the other from Borivali to Churchgate,rammed into each other. One compartment of the train that was going to Churchgate derailed as a result of the accident. At this moment,we do not have any reports of casualties or injuries, said David.

Sources,however,said several persons were injured in the accident. The injured were brought to Andheri Railway Station before being taken to hospitals for treatment,they said.

Railway authorities said inquiries about how the trains came to be on the same track were on,but added

that it was still too early to comment.

Meanwhile,trains running on the western line were delayed for over 20 minutes as a result of the accident.
