Irans atomic chief Salehi new FM
Tehran: Irans atomic chief Ali Akbar Salehi officially took charge on Saturday as the Islamic republics new Foreign Minister after his predecessor was fired by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad,media reports said. Iranian media reported that Salehi will be the interim Foreign Minister until the parliament officials endorses his appointment.
Germanys Merkel visits Afghanistan
Berlin: German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Saturday made an unannounced visit to northern Afghanistan,where her countrys troops serve in the NATO-led force. The government in Berlin said that Merkel,her defence minister and the militarys chief of staff arrived in Kunduz,where Germany has a base. It declined to give further details.
Sweden bomber denounced by family
Stockholm: Ali Thwani,father-in-law of Stockholm suicide bomber Taimour Abdulwahab has denounced the 28-year-old attacker as a brainwashed terrorist who rejected all the good that Sweden gave him. In a letter to the media,Ali Thwany on Friday said his daughter Mona was not aware that her husband was plotting an attack,though she grew suspicious of his frequent travels. We announce our dissociation with him, Thwany wrote.
