Germanys Merkel visits Afghanistan

Berlin: German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Saturday made an unannounced visit to northern Afghanistan,where her countrys troops serve in the NATO-led force. The government in Berlin said that Merkel,her defence minister and the militarys chief of staff arrived in Kunduz,where Germany has a base. It declined to give further details.

Sweden bomber denounced by family

Stockholm: Ali Thwani,father-in-law of Stockholm suicide bomber Taimour Abdulwahab has denounced the 28-year-old attacker as a brainwashed terrorist who rejected all the good that Sweden gave him. In a letter to the media,Ali Thwany on Friday said his daughter Mona was not aware that her husband was plotting an attack,though she grew suspicious of his frequent travels.
