Khandu for making Arunachal a fav tourist destination

Arunachal Pradesh CM called for a concerted effort to transform this land-locked state into a favourite tourist destination.

Advocating peace as the mantra for development,Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu today called for a concerted effort to transform this land-locked state into a favourite tourist destination in the country.

“Our state is blessed with immense tourism potential and efforts should be made by all and sundry to exploit it to the optimum,” Khandu said on the inaugural day of the centennial celebration of Pasighat, the headquarters town of East Siang district.

“Be hospitable to tourists and respect them,” the chief minister exhorted hoteliers and tour operators while directing the district administration to fix uniform rates in hotel rent and taxi fares.

Terming the bandh culture as an impediment to development,Khandu urged upon various organisations to give up such culture which would pave way for an investor friendly environment in the state.

Appreciating the rich culture and tradition of people of Siang belt,Khandu urged the younger generation not to forget the glorious past civilisations in the Adi history and to go for whole-hearted preservation of their unique tradition and culture.

“Loss of culture is loss of identity,” the chief minister said adding,“Acceptance of modernity is the need of the hour but at the same time one should not shed off his own tradition and culture”.

The chief minister, while rejecting apprehensions by a few civil societies on upcoming power projects in the state, said that Arunachal being a resource-crunch state should go for exploiting all its power potentials which could bring the economy at par with other developed regions of the country.

“Hydropower will be a boon for the state’s inclusive growth and all environmental factors will be considered before executing any such project. As apprehended by a few anti-dam organisations in neighbouring Assam, power projects in Arunachal will not harm that state but help it manifold,” the chief minister asserted.

Presenting a detailed account of various developmental initiatives undertaken by his government,Khandu disclosed that Arunachal has placed a proposal with New Delhi for sanctioning a Rs 4,300 crore project.

“We are proposing for an amount of Rs 3000 crore for infrastructure development in 22 un-connected administration circles in the state besides,Rs 500 crore for border area development and Rs 800 crore for providing drinking water in remote and far-flung areas of the state,” he added.

Informing that the first battalion of the Arunachal Scout was raised at Shillong recently,Khandu said the Centre has agreed in principle to sanction three more battalion while raising of the 4th Indian Reserve battalion is expected soon.
