Jaya slams PM security for showing ‘disrespect’ to DGP

She has demanded “appropriate action” be taken against those responsible

Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa slammed the Special Protection Group for the “outrageous incident” where the Tamil Nadu DGP was not allowed to receive PM Manmohan Singh on his visit to the state Friday. She has demanded “appropriate action” be taken against those responsible. In a letter addressed to the PM,Jayalalithaa said the incident shows the SPG in “very poor light”. She said when DGP K Ramanujam walked towards the PM’s aircraft,“he was rudely accosted and prevented from approaching it by a lower level SPG officer who was part of the security team on duty.” Ramanujam was part of a team,including Finance Minister O Panneerselvam and Chief Secretary Sheela Balakrishnan,deputed to receive Singh en route to his visit to Thirumayan in nearby Pudhukottai,Jayalalithaa said.
