India to train Kyrgyz Armed Forces

Stepping up its engagement with Central Asia,India will be sending a military team to train the Kyrgyz Armed Forces by the end of this month.

Stepping up its engagement with Central Asia,India will be sending a military team to train the Kyrgyz Armed Forces by the end of this month. India has also offered more assistance to strengthen the defence capabilities of Kyrgyzstan,which was personally conveyed by Defence Minister A K Antony,who is on a three day visit to that country.

India will also step up cooperation in tackling terrorism and drug trafficking with the Central Asian Republic and it has been decided that joint working groups on counter-terrorism between the countries will regularly meet to share information.

India will be sending a team to train Kyrgyz Armed Forces in UN Peace Keeping Operations and impart English language skills. The team will be arriving in Kyrgyzistan by the end of this month, said Defence Ministry spokesperson Sitanshu Kar,who is part of the Indian delegation.

The offer to extent cooperation beyond the training of peacekeeping forces was made by Antony during talks with is Kyrgyz counterpart Major General Abibilla Kudayberdiev in Bishkek on Monday. India is one of the largest troop contributing countries for UN missions and has extensive expertise in training soldiers for peacekeeping missions.

Antony is leading a high level defence delegation to the Central Asian republic.
