Obama looks forward to working with new Govt
Congratulating India on its historic national elections,US President Barack Obama said on Saturday that he looks forward to working with the new Government in India to enhance the warm partnership between the two countries.
A statement issued by the White House press secretary late on Saturday,he said: President Obama looks forward to continue working with the Indian Government to enhance the warm partnership between our two countries.
It said that by successfully completing the largest exercise of popular voting in the world,the elections have strengthened Indias vibrant democracy and upheld the values of freedom and pluralism that make India an example for us all.
The statement further said that while the world awaits the formation of a new Government in India based on the elections result,the US recognises the significance of the election for the people of India,who remain the strength and foundation for Indias prosperity and democracy.
Zardari one of the first to congratulate Manmohan
Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari was one of the first foreign dignitaries to call up Manmohan Singh and congratulate him on his victory.
This is the first telephonic conversation between the two leaders since December,when they discussed the Mumbai terror attacks and its aftermath. It was during this conversation when Zardari had agreed to send the ISI chief to India,but later backtracked after being overruled by the Pakistan Army.
Besides Zardari,Bhutan King Jigme Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck also called up Manmohan Singh to congratulate him.
British MPs hail UPA victory
