Separatist leaders are unlikely to meet the members of the all-party delegation visiting the Valley on Monday. Their refrain is that doing so will not be helpful in the current situation and will in no way be a step forward in their pursuit for the resolution of Kashmir.
We will decide once we get the invite, moderate Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq told The Sunday Express. He,however, said that talking to the all-party delegation will not make any difference to the turmoil in the state.
Sources in the moderate Hurriyat said that the meeting with the delegation was highly unlikely.
The chief of the hardline Hurriyat faction,Syed Ali Geelani, expressed similar opinion. We have not been invited as yet. But I dont think any purpose will be served here, Geelani said. Unless there is positive movement on our demands, there is no question of being part of any dialogue process.
Geelani pointed out that he has already set conditions for a productive engagement for a lasting solution to Kashmir. New Delhi has refused to respond to these demands. This shows there is no desire there to start a meaningful process for the solution to Kashmir, Geelani said. He said the visit of all-party delegation will make no difference. India should take steps for a long term settlement of Kashmir. Instead, the signs are that there is no change in the age-old policy towards the state.
