High command may give in with a rider

Even as the BJP top brass sought to play down the Karnataka crisis, the Assembly elections less than a year away in the state have started weighing heavy on their minds. They are reported to be weighing various options, including being open to a change of leadership in the state as demanded by B S Yeddyurappa loyalists.

There is no crisis in Karnataka. All the problems that have occurred will be fully resolved, senior party leader Rajnath Singh said on Sunday, reacting to the developments in the state where the rival camp has set July 5 as the deadline for the change of leadership.

I have briefed Nitin Gadkariji about my deliberations in Karnataka. I am confident, all things will be sorted out, party general secretary in-charge of Karnataka told The Indian Express.

Sources, however, said the central leadership was in fact weighing the leadership change as an option, but the timing,as dictated by the Yeddyurappa camp, may not be adhered to.

The central leadership has realised that the organisational initiative required ahead of the Assembly elections has taken a backseat in the backdrop of the factional war.

The party sources confided that the top brass was aware of the need to reinstate primacy of the Linagayat community in state affairs.

The party leadership was trying to strike a balance between its three major support bases the Lingayats, the backward classes like the Kuruba community and the Dalits.

This may mean that while giving in to the Yeddyurappa camp, the party may insist according due status to leaders of other communities under the changed leadership.
