HC bail to Ghandy stayed

The Maoist leader,who has been in jail since 2009,is facing trial in around 20 criminal cases in different parts of the country.

The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the Andhra Pradesh High Court order granting bail to Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy who is accused of killing of a Congress leader and eight others in 2005.

A Bench of Justices B S Chauhan and K S Radhakrishnan also issued a notice to Ghandy on a petition filed by the Andhra Pradesh government seeking quashing of the bail granted to him by the High Court. The Maoist leader,who has been in jail since 2009,is facing trial in around 20 criminal cases in different parts of the country.

Congress leader Chittem Narsi Reddy,his son Chittem Venkateswara Reddy and 7 others were killed by Maoists in Narayanapet in Mahbubnagar district on August 15,2005.

Ghandy,63,is lodged in Delhis Tihar Jail.
