A year after his retirement as Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Hisar Range,Mahendra Singh Ahlawat,a resident of Bhiwani,has been booked for molestation and assault of a divorced woman who had approached him when he was Superintendent of Police in Yamunanagar eight years ago.
A case has been registered against Ahlawat on a complaint of Arwinder Kaur,an advocate. Kaur,in the complaint,has alleged she had approached Ahlawat to get a case registered against her husband and in-laws for demanding dowry and torturing her.
She alleges Ahlawat called her frequently to his official residence to get a case registered. He,instead,assaulted her sexually. Ahlawat has been booked under Sections 354 (outraging modesty of a woman),323 (assault) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
The complainant has been battling for registration of a case against the officer since long. Earlier,she had staged a dharna outside the residence of Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Chandigarh and in Rohtak.
