RJD chief Lalu Prasad,who is currently undergoing a five-year jail term in a fodder scam case, moved the Supreme Court on Monday against a High Court order rejecting his bail. The court agreed to hear his appeal and fixed the matter for November 29.
A Bench headed by Chief Justice P Satahsivam,before whom the matter was mentioned by senior advocate P H Parekh,said that the case will be taken up Friday.
Lalu,whose Parliament membership was taken away after being convicted in the case,moved the SC challenging the order of the Jharkhand HC which had earlier dismissed his bail plea.
Lalu,another former Bihar CM Jagannath Mishra and 43 others were convicted by a special CBI court on September 30 in the fodder scam case involving fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore from Chaibasa Treasury during the Lalu-led RJD regime. The CBI court had pronounced varying prison terms to convicted persons.
