The prospect of getting a fair share of the Rs 1,000-crore Nirbhaya fund has made Railways draw up a plan to make stations and trains safer for women.

As per Budget, the Centre is committed to spending the fund this year. The emphasis will be on making public places safer for women.

The Railways plan includes women TTEs,ladies toilets on mail/express trains,long-distance trains with separate coaches for women,‘ladies only’ waiting rooms and toilets at small and suburban stations and better illumination in passenger circulation areas with more CCTVs.
