Engineering students kill backward class batchmate

The assailants said they wanted to teach the victim a lesson.

Two days after a second year engineering student,Pradeep Jhangra,was shot dead outside his college the Kalpana Chawla Institute of Engineering and Technology,Hisar the police today arrested two of his classmates,Rajkumar and Kalyan Singh.

While Pradeep,a topper of his class,belonged to the backward caste category,both the accused are Jats. Pradeep was shot dead on Monday morning.

According to the police,Kalyan and Rajkumar,who were on a motorcycle,stopped Pradeep just outside the college.

Kalyan,who was sitting pillion,was carrying a countrymade revolver,from which he fired six rounds at Pradeep. Four of the bullets hit Pradeep, said Hisar DSP Ombir Singh.

The Hisar police claimed to have recovered the revolver and motorcycle used by the accused.

The revolver was reportedly provided by a third accomplice,Kuldeep,who has also been arrested.

During interrogation,the accused reportedly revealed that they had an enmity with Pradeep.

They claimed they had been threatened by Pradeep and his friends and therefore planned to teach him a lesson. They said they only planned to scare Pradeep by showing him the revolver,but later shot him dead. They then fled to Rajasthan,where they read in the newspapers that Pradeep had died, said the DSP.

Pradeep had reportedly told his father that he was facing a threat from Kalyan and Rajkumar. On Monday morning,Pradeeps father had accompanied him to the college.
