Saharanpur DIG Satish Kumar Mathur has been reportedly caught on camera suggesting honour killing to a man seeking help to trace his missing daughter.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday. Shaukeen Mohammad of Prabudha Nagar district reportedly requested Mathur to ask policemen to trace his missing daughter. Mathur reportedly told the man that if his sister eloped,he would kill her or commit suicide. A local journalist recorded the conversation on tape.
The DIG allegedly said,I dont have magical powers to recover your daughter. But if your daughter has eloped,then you should be ashamed of it and end your life. I would have killed my sister if she had eloped. The DIG has denied the statement.
The state government has directed Meerut IG Jawahar Lal Tripathi to conduct an inquiry and submit a report,said ADG Jagmohan Yadav. The National Commission for Women has demanded Mathurs suspension.
Ministers resignation accepted
Governor Shivraj Patil today accepted the resignation of Punjab Agriculture Minister Tota Singh.
A CMO spokesman said Singh had stepped down on moral grounds following his conviction by a Mohali court in a case related to the misuse of the official vehicle of Punjab School Education Board while he was the education minister between 1997 and 2002. He tendered his resignation to the CM,which was forwarded to the Governor, he said.
