Delhi per capita income hits Rs 88,421

Also,Delhi's GDP has registered an impressive growth touching Rs 1.6 lakh crore.

Delhi’s gross state domestic product has registered an impressive growth touching Rs 1.6 lakh crore for the year 2008-09 as against Rs 1.44 lakh crore in the previous fiscal,official statistics today said.

In an indication of sustained economic growth,the per capita income in the national capital has increased to Rs 88,421 in the financial year 2008-09 as against the national figure of Rs 37,490.

The per capita income in the city saw an increase of Rs 9,631 over 2007-08 figures at current prices,according to a Delhi Government data released today.

The gross state domestic product at the current prices has been estimated at Rs 1,65,948 crore for the year 2008-09 taking 1999-2000 as base year.

In interesting statistics,the total number of mobile phones in the city has been counted at Rs 2.82 crore as on March 31,2010 against the total population of Rs 1.38 crore (as per 2001 census).

As per the statistical handbook,the projected population as on October 1,2010 in Delhi stood at Rs 1.82 crore while the it is projected to go up to Rs 2.84 crore in the year 2026.

According to the figures,use of oral pills as contraceptive has been on the rise while use of condom has seen a decline in the year 2009-10 compared to the previous year.

As per the statistics,2,97,358 oral contraceptive pills (cycles) were sold in the city in the year 2009-10 as against 1,81,412 oral pills in the year 2008-09. The handbook said 82,55,000 condoms were sold in the city in 2009-10 as against 94,76,000 a year ago.

It said the infant mortality rate in Delhi in the year 2009 was 18.96 per 1,000 live births as against 18.38 in the previous year.

As per the report,the national capital has 64,51,883 vehicles out of which 20,13,680 are cars and jeeps. The number of motorcycles has been estimated at 40,55,229.

In the year 2008-09,the number of vehicles in the city was recorded at 60,11,731.
