Friends and family members gathered at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai to pay last respects to Dara Singh who breathed his last at 7.30 am after a five-day battle for life

Friends and family members gathered at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai to pay last respects to Dara Singh who breathed his last at 7.30 am on Thursday after a five-day battle for life.

Singh was admitted to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital on July 7 after he had suffered a cardiac arrest. With no improvement in his condition,he was brought home on Wednesday night.

After the news of his death spread,fans thronged the street outside his Juhu home,Dara Villa,while celebrities dropped in to express sympathies with the family. Actor Dharmendra,a close friend of Singh,had been visiting him daily ever since the latter was admitted to hospital.

In an hour-long procession from Dara Villa,the wrestler-actors body was carried to the crematorium in a funeral coach covered with flowers,accompanied by his family and close friends. His last rites were performed as per Sikh tradition,by his son and actor Vindoo Dara Singh.
