An artwork looms over two storeys and resembles a pile of shelves. Was somebody spring-cleaning their office? Not really; this piece is called Cybermohalla Hub,and the boxes symbolise “resettlement colonies such as Gheora in Delhi where a plot measures 3X6m,” says Frankfurt-based artist Nikolaus Hirsch. Cybermohalla Hub is a part of “Sarai Reader 09,” a nine-month-long exhibition of contemporary art that was launched by Devi Art Foundation on Saturday. Curated by Raqs Media Collective, the exhibition has artists working on new pieces as well as reworking old works by other artists.

Another work is Gagandeep Singh’s Drawing Is a Mental Exercise,an empty, white canvas except for a patch in the centre with the figure of a Sardar running around a city. “The show unfolds in four parts. The first episode opened on August 18 and the next one will begin on October 13,” says Jeebesh Bagchi,a co-founder of Raqs. More than 25 works will be showcased in the ongoing episode.

The exhibition will be held till April 13 at Sirpur House,Gurgaon.
