A head Constable of Indore GRP Station has been suspended after he made a 12-year-old ragpicker carry the severed head of an alleged suicide victim off the railway track on Monday. When the boy resisted,Ashok Yadav apparently used both pressure and promised him Rs 100.
As bystanders watched in horror, the young boy,Firoz, somehow managed to place the severed head near the body, which was later identified as that belonging to Mushtak Mohammed,a painter of unstable mind.
Mohammed,in his mid-50s,had placed his head under an AC coach of the Malwa Express just when it started to move.
Yadav had first asked Firoz to search the suicide victims pockets to know his identity. The boy later said Yadav did not even pay him the promised money.
Yadav, who has been suspended pending an inquiry, claimed he waited for sanitary workers to arrive, but had to hurry because the railway authorities wanted the track cleared early.
In-charge of Indore GRP Station B S Sandhu claimed it was difficult to find people to remove bodies of accident or suicide victims even when they are promised Rs 500. He admitted it was wrong for the head constable to ask a young boy to do a job, which others refused. Railway IG R K Gupta suspended Yadav and ordered an inquiry.
