The Congress and the BJP indulged in a war of words over the Uttarakhand disaster on Monday. The Congress criticised Leaders of Opposition Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj for not visiting the disaster-hit state even once. In a reaction,Sushma called for dismissal of Vijay Bahuguna government for its inept and incompetent handling of the crisis.
The Congress defended Bahuguna. Ajay Maken said the party was satisfied with the way the state government has taken up the challenge. The party also released a list of initiatives taken by the state to tackle the situation.
Did anyone see Leaders of Opposition in both Houses express sympathy/visit disaster-hit Uttarakhand. This from a party that criticises visits of Cong leaders, he said.
Swaraj hit back on Twitter with equal ferocity. I am sorry to say that the government in Uttarakhand has not been able to rise to the occasion. They ought to be dismissed for being inept and incompetent, Swaraj said.
Unfortunately, she said, the Government in Delhi has also failed to provide the requisite leadership. Those who can not govern in crisis do not deserve to be in the government even for a day, Swaraj said.
Swaraj said they did not go to Uttarakhand because the Home Minister had made a public statement that our visit will hamper the rescue effort and claimed that she herself woke you Congress-led UPA government up about the scale of tragedy when I spoke to Home Minister on 18th June.
Tewari said,If LOP Leader of Opposition follows the advice of HM how come it does not apply to the BJP President and Poll panel chief? Different strokes for different folks!
