Maharashtra Assembly member and Samajwadi Party state president Abu Asim Azmi has alleged that the Congress was trying to break his party. This came a day after AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi said his party would go it alone in the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
Azmi said he and the two other party MLAs would resist the dirty game of the Congress and will remain loyal to the Samajwadi party. I am being offered all kinds of inducements by the Congress in Maharashtra. I have been offered a berth in the state Cabinet with a portfolio of my choice, but I have turned down the offer. I was with Mulayam Singh Yadav and I will remain with him, he said over phone from Mumbai. I have got several calls from a senior Congress leader in Delhi, telling me that it was high time I desert the SP and join the Congress.
Azmi dismissed speculation that he could switch his loyalties to his old friend Amar Singh.
