Cong should not find scapegoats, says Advani

The Congress and the NCP in Maharashtra may have decided to consider as closed the controversy over Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavans statement.

The Congress and the NCP in Maharashtra may have decided to consider as closed the controversy over Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavans statement that allotting the Home department to the alliance partner was a mistake, but the BJP is keen to keep the issue alive. Senior leader L K Advani said the Congress should not try to find scapegoats for the terror attack in Mumbai.

The common man must be feeling amazed to read the Maharashtra Chief Minister blaming the blasts on the NCP just because the Home portfolio in the state is with the party, said Advani in his blog. Let not the Congress party try to find scapegoats for the latest Mumbai outrage.

The BJP veteran pointed out that Union Home Minister P Chidambaram himself had absolved Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil of any blame. Chidambaram,he said, had asserted that there had been no intelligence failure, which meant that the local police set-up was not at fault.

In fact,Advani utilised the controversy to target the UPA government. He said neither the Maharashtra Chief Minister nor the Home Minister could be blamed for the attack. It is New Delhi that is squarely responsible. Both the Prime Minister and the Congress president must realise that unless the Government of Indias terror policy changes radically, such incidents will continue to recur, he wrote.
