Amidst continuing protests from non-Telangana regions of Andhra Pradesh and demands for statehood emanating from different regions of the country, the Congress core group is likely to meet on Monday to take stock of the situation.
Having already put Telangana statehood on the back-burner,the Centre is not prepared to even consider demands for other states, according to party sources. They said the core group is likely to discuss the course of action to douse the inflamed passions in non-Telangana regions of Andhra Pradesh and also to put an end to all political posturing over statehood to different regions like Bundelkhand,Gorkhaland, etc.
While many ministers in Andhra Pradesh continued to issue threats of resignation,Congress sources refused to attach any importance to it,maintaining that ministers and MLAs were only playing to the gallery to address their constituencies.
Meanwhile, the ruling Congress on Saturday distanced itself from Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah over his veiled criticism of Home Minister P Chidambaram for announcing the initiation of the process of formation of Telangana state. The CM was reported to have said he was astonished and anguished by the Home Ministers announcement.
The Congress also attacked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati over her demand for carving out three separate states from Uttar Pradesh saying she should have got a resolution passed for it from the Assembly if she was serious about it.
