Conflict between illegal migrants and Indians: BJP

Describing the ethnic violence in Assam as a conflict between the native Assamese and illegal migrants from Bangladesh,BJP president Nitin Gadkari

Describing the ethnic violence in Assam as a conflict between the native Assamese and illegal migrants from Bangladesh,BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Monday accused former president late Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed and former Union minister late Moinul Haq Chowdhury of offering a red carpet welcome to illegal migrants for vote bank politics.

This Assam violence is not a communal issue. It is a conflict between people of Indian origin and illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. Red carpets were spread for Bangladeshis for vote bank politics. People like Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed and Moinul Haq Chowdhury were behind it, Gadkari said while speaking at a party function.

He said the Congress conceded to the pressure of its Muslim MLAs in the state Assembly to force the then chief minister Bimala Prasad Chaliha to drop his drive against illegal Bangladeshi migrants in the early 1960s.

The Congress is at the core of this problem, he said.

Alleging that the UPA government has been promoting corruption and has been a failure on economic fronts,he asserted that the violence in Assam was reflective of the governments failure on the issues of internal and external security.

Gadkari announced he will ask his state unit chiefs to keep party headquarters open for the students from northeastern states and suggested party workers to act as guardians for the students living in their neighbourhood to instil a sense of security among them.

Earlier,BJP leaders led a farmers protest against alleged faulty policies of UPA. Congress is looting people. The government cant protect farmers, cant provide justice to them. Farmers are under debt because of the UPAs policies, he said.
